- Problem
- East Manufacturing Corp. (East) is recalling certain model year 2016 Hybrid and Steel Dump trailers manufactured May 16, 2016, to June 2, 2016. These trailers may have incorrect Federal Certification labels with overstated gross axle weight ratings (GAWR) and/or gross vehicle weight ratings (GVWR). As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of 49 CFR Part 567, "Certification."
- Risk
- If the GAWR and/or GVWR limits are overstated, the driver may overload the trailer, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy
- East will notify owners, and will supply a new Certification Label and mounting rivets, free of charge. The recall began on July 1, 2016. Owners may contact East customer service at 1-330-325-8204.
- Notes
- Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.
What this recall means for you
Some 2016 dump trailers built between May 16 and June 2, 2016 may have incorrect federal certification labels. The labels can overstate the gross axle weight rating (GAWR) and/or gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR), so the trailer may appear able to carry more weight than it safely can.
If the stated limits are too high, the driver could load the trailer beyond its safe capacity. An overloaded trailer raises the risk of a crash.
The manufacturer, East Manufacturing Corp., will notify owners and will supply a new certification label and mounting rivets at no cost. Owners can contact East customer service at 1-330-325-8204. Check your trailer's certification label and confirm your VIN for open recalls.
