Heartland 18' Carhauler Recall 16V423: Trailer Clearance Lights Not Visible From Rear, Crash Risk

NHTSA campaign 16V423, reported June 10, 2016, 70 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain 2016 Heartland 18' Carhauler dovetail trailers built between December 1, 2015 and April 30, 2016 have clearance lights that cannot be seen from the rear of the trailer. This means the trailer does not meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 108 for lamps and reflective devices.

Without visible clearance lights, other drivers may not see the trailer's width and presence, which increases the risk of a crash, especially at night or in low visibility.

Heartland will notify affected owners. Authorized dealers will install P2-rated beehive-style clearance lamps on the front and rear sides of the trailer at no cost. Owners can contact Heartland customer service at 1-573-471-6826, and can check their VIN for open recalls.
