Chevrolet Spark Recall 16V422: Radio May Not Chime for Unbuckled Seatbelt or Key Left In

NHTSA campaign 16V422, reported June 10, 2016, 18,780 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain Chevrolet vehicles with a Bring Your Own Media radio may fail to sound the audible warning chime when the driver is not wearing a seatbelt or when the key is left in the ignition. The missing alert also means the vehicle does not fully meet federal safety standards for occupant crash protection and theft protection.

Without the audible reminder, a driver may drive without fastening their seatbelt, which raises the risk of injury in a crash. Leaving the key in the ignition also removes a theft-deterrent warning.

GM will notify affected owners, and dealers will update the radio software at no cost. Owners can also contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, referencing GM recall number 45340. Check your vehicle identification number for open recalls to confirm whether your car is affected.
