Tiffin Allegro Recall 16V397: Steering Can Fail Suddenly, Risking a Crash

NHTSA campaign 16V397, reported June 2, 2016, 539 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain Tiffin Allegro motorhomes built between October 1, 2014 and August 1, 2015 may have steering boxes made with incorrect internal spacers. These spacers can cause premature wear in the connection between the steering wheel and the front axle, which may lead to a sudden loss of steering ability.

Losing steering control while driving greatly increases the risk of a crash. Owners are urged not to drive their vehicles until the steering box has been inspected.

Dealers will inspect the steering box and replace it if necessary, at no cost to the owner. Tiffin will notify affected owners and can be reached at 1-256-356-8661. Owners should also check their vehicle identification number for any open recalls.
