Kymco K-Pipe Recall 16V392: Gear shift order reversed; wrong gear risks loss of control

NHTSA campaign 16V392, reported June 1, 2016, 340 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

On certain 2016 motorcycles built between March 1, 2016 and May 25, 2016, the gear shift pattern was assembled in the reverse of the standard sequence. This means the motorcycle does not meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 123 for motorcycle controls and displays.

Because the shift pattern is opposite to what most other motorcycles use, a rider may become confused and select the wrong gear. This can affect control of the motorcycle and increase the risk of a crash.

The manufacturer will notify owners, and authorized dealers will repair the motorcycle free of charge. The recall began on July 13, 2016. Owners can contact KYMCO customer service at 1-888-235-3417 and should check their VIN for open recalls.
