Kzrv MXT Recall 16V391: Trailer Safety Chains Too Weak; Trailer Could Separate

NHTSA campaign 16V391, reported June 1, 2016, 2 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

The safety chains on the A-frame of certain 2016 MXT travel trailers are rated for 11,700 pounds, which is less than the trailer's gross vehicle weight rating. The chains should be rated at least equal to the GVWR.

If the main trailer connection fails, the trailer's weight could break the safety chains. The trailer could then separate from the towing vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash. This recall covers trailers built between December 15, 2015, and March 22, 2016.

The repair is free. Dealers will replace the safety chains with chains rated equal to or greater than the GVWR. KZ will notify owners. You can also contact KZ customer service at 1-800-768-4016, extension 153 or 154, and check your VIN for any open recalls.
