Thomas Built Buses Saf-T-Liner HDX Recall 16V326: Coolant hose can fail and leak hot fluid inside bus

NHTSA campaign 16V326, reported May 19, 2016, 43 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain Thomas Built Buses Saf-T-Liner HDX school buses have a transmission retarder that can raise coolant system pressure. Over time this can fatigue a heater hose, causing it to fail prematurely and leak hot coolant inside the bus body.

Hot coolant leaking inside the bus increases the risk of injury to passengers. Because the hose is located inside the bus body, a leak may not be obvious until it causes a problem.

The repair is free. Dealers will replace the heater hose at no charge. Owners can contact Daimler Trucks North America customer service at 1-800-547-0712 (recall FL-709), and should check their vehicle identification number (VIN) for open recalls.
