Keystone Summerland Recall 16V322: Trailer Tires May Be Underrated, Risking Blowouts

NHTSA campaign 16V322, reported May 19, 2016, 402 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain 2016-2017 Keystone Summerland trailers (models 1700FQ, 1750RD and 1800BH, built April 8 to April 20, 2016) may have been fitted with ST215/75R14 Load Range C tires rated for 1,870 lbs instead of the Load Range D tires rated for 2,200 lbs that the trailers should have. Owners may unknowingly overload these tires, which can lead to tire failure.

A tire failure on a towed trailer increases the risk of a crash. Owners should check their trailer's tires and load, and avoid exceeding the lower rating until the correct tires are installed.

Keystone will replace the tires with ones of the proper load rating, free of charge, through authorized dealers. Owners can contact Keystone customer service at 1-866-425-4369 (recall number 16-253). You can also check your vehicle identification number for any open recalls.
