Fccc XCM Recall 16V321: Engine Brake May Suddenly Fail, Raising Crash Risk

NHTSA campaign 16V321, reported May 18, 2016, 2,275 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

The accelerator pedal's throttle position sensor may fail to return to zero after the pedal is released. When this happens, the engine brake can suddenly stop activating as expected, which reduces the vehicle's ability to slow down.

A sudden loss of engine braking without warning can reduce deceleration and may increase the risk of a crash. Owners should be aware of this risk and have the affected pedal checked.

The remedy is free: an authorized dealer will replace the throttle pedal at no charge. Owners can contact Daimler Trucks North America customer service at 1-800-547-0712 (recall FL-711) and should check their vehicle identification number for open recalls.
