Heartland Resort Recall 16V318: Safety chains may break, letting trailer separate

NHTSA campaign 16V318, reported May 18, 2016, 172 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain 2016-2017 trailers built between September 28, 2015, and April 30, 2016, may have a structural problem at the main trailer connection. If that connection fails, the weight of the trailer could break the safety chains, allowing the trailer to separate from the towing vehicle and increasing the risk of a crash.

Heartland will notify affected owners, and authorized dealers will replace the safety chains free of charge. The recall began on June 2, 2016. You can contact Heartland customer service at 1-877-262-8032 to ask about your trailer.

Check your trailer's VIN for open recalls, and have the safety chains inspected or replaced by an authorized dealer as soon as possible.
