Mobility Works Ford E-350 Recall 16V317: Wheelchair Lift Platform Can Crack and Fall Onto Operator

NHTSA campaign 16V317, reported May 18, 2016, 11 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain 2014-2015 Ford E-150, E-250, E-350 and Chevrolet Express 2500 vans fitted with specific Ricon wheelchair lifts may have a platform side plate that cracks. The folding link arms may also have pivot holes that are too large, allowing bearings to move out of position. Either problem can let the lift platform separate from the lift and come to rest against the vehicle's lift door.

When the doors are opened, the platform may fall onto the lift operator, increasing the risk of injury. Owners should contact Mobility Works customer service at 1-800-769-8267, referencing recall number 16E-020. Ricon dealers will inspect the link arms for damage or displaced bearings and inspect the platform for cracks.

Any damaged parts will be replaced free of charge. The recall began June 17, 2016. Check your vehicle identification number (VIN) for open recalls to confirm whether your van is affected.

Problem
Mobility Works (WMK Inc.) is recalling certain model year 2014-2015 Ford E-150, E-250, E-350, and Chevrolet Express 2500 vans manufactured January 1, 2014, to December 31, 2015, and equipped with certain model S2005, S2010, S5005, S5010, S5505, and S5510 wheelchair lifts by Ricon. The platform side plate of the affected wheelchair lifts may crack.
