Land Rover Discovery Sport Recall 16V274: Rear license plate light may fall out, hard to see at night

NHTSA campaign 16V274, reported May 6, 2016, 14,731 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

The license plate illumination lamp on certain vehicles built between September 2014 and March 2016 may fall out. Without that light, the rear license plate can be hard to read at night, and the vehicle may not meet federal lighting requirements (FMVSS 108).

The risk is reduced visibility of your vehicle after dark, which can make it harder for police, toll systems, or other drivers to identify it. Keep in mind that a missing lamp can also mean a loose or unsecured part at the rear of the vehicle.

The repair is free. Dealers will replace both rear license plate lamp housings at no charge. Owners will be notified by mail, but you can also contact Land Rover customer service at 1-800-637-6837 (recall number P077). You can also check your VIN for open recalls on the NHTSA website.
