Chevrolet Sonic Recall 16V257: Missing key warning chime can raise theft risk

What this recall means for you

Some 2013-2016 Chevrolet Sonic and Trax and 2013-2015 Chevrolet Spark vehicles with a Bring Your Own Media radio may not sound the audible warning chime when the key is left in the ignition after the ignition is turned off and the driver waits 10 minutes or longer before opening the door. This means the expected reminder that the key is still in the cylinder may not sound, and the vehicles do not meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 114 for theft protection.

Without that audible alert, a driver may leave the key in the ignition without realizing it, which increases the risk of the vehicle being stolen.

General Motors will notify owners, and authorized dealers will update the radio software at no cost to you. A notification schedule has not yet been provided.
