RAM Promaster Recall 16V253: Trailer brake lights may fail to light when braking

NHTSA campaign 16V253, reported April 28, 2016, 6,422 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Some RAM ProMaster and ProMaster City vans from model years 2014 to 2016 may have a software error in the Trailer Tow Lighting Control Module. Under certain conditions, this error can keep the trailer brake lights from turning on when the brakes are applied, so the vehicles do not meet federal lighting requirements.

Inoperative trailer brake lights mean drivers behind a towed trailer may not see that you are slowing or stopping, which can increase the risk of a crash.

The repair is free. Owners will be notified by Chrysler, and an authorized dealer will replace the Trailer Tow Lighting Control Module at no cost. You can also contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403, referencing recall S22, and check your vehicle identification number (VIN) for any open recalls.
