Toyota Camry Recall 16V215: Passenger Front Airbags May Not Deploy as Intended

NHTSA campaign 16V215, reported April 14, 2016, 58,515 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain 2016 Toyota Avalon and Camry vehicles built between November 30, 2015 and March 4, 2016 may have an occupant classification system that was improperly calibrated. This system determines whether the front passenger airbag and front passenger knee airbag should be turned on or off. If it is miscalibrated, these airbags may not deploy as intended in certain crashes, which increases the risk of injury to the front passenger.

The affected vehicles do not meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 208 for occupant crash protection. Toyota will notify owners, and authorized dealers will recalibrate the occupant classification system at no cost to you. If you own one of these vehicles, contact Toyota customer service at 1-888-270-9371, and check your VIN for open recalls on the NHTSA website or with your dealer.
