- Component
- ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:WIRING; EXTERIOR LIGHTING:TURN SIGNAL
- Problem
- Jayco, Inc. (Jayco) is recalling certain model year 2016 Octane travel trailers, model 222(V2), manufactured March 23, 2016, to March 30, 2016. The turn signal wires on the affected trailers may be crossed, activating the opposite turn signal of the one intended. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Assoc. Equipment."
- Risk
- Crossed turn signal wires may confuse other drivers by incorrectly indicating the intended direction and thereby increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy
- Jayco will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and repair the wiring, as necessary, free of charge. The recall began on April 25, 2016. Owners may contact Jayco customer service at 1-800-283-8267. Jayco's number for this recall is 9901293.
- Notes
- Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.
What this recall means for you
Some 2016 Jayco Octane travel trailers built between March 23 and March 30, 2016 may have crossed turn signal wiring. When the driver signals one direction, the opposite turn signal may activate instead. This does not meet federal lighting safety requirements and can confuse other drivers about where you intend to turn or change lanes, increasing the risk of a crash.
Jayco will notify affected owners, and authorized dealers will inspect the trailer's wiring and repair it if needed. The repair is free of charge. Owners can also contact Jayco customer service at 1-800-283-8267 and reference recall number 9901293.
If you own a 2016 Octane, check your VIN for open recalls and confirm your trailer's build date with the dealer or Jayco before your next trip.
