Nissan Maxima Recall 16V193: Brake Fluid Loss Can Lengthen Stopping Distance

NHTSA campaign 16V193, reported April 7, 2016, 12,616 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain 2016 Nissan Maxima and Murano vehicles built in late 2015 and early 2016 may have a damaged O-ring in the antilock brake system (ABS) actuator. This can cause a loss of brake fluid pressure, meaning the brakes may not work as well as they should.

Reduced brake fluid pressure can lengthen the distance needed to stop the vehicle, which increases the risk of a crash. If you own one of the affected vehicles, check your VIN for open recalls to see whether your car is included.

The repair is free. Nissan will notify owners, and an authorized dealer will inspect the ABS actuator and replace it if necessary. For questions, contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-647-7261.
