Terex Aerial Devices Recall 16V177: Aerial Platform Can Tilt Unexpectedly, Risking Falls

NHTSA campaign 16V177, reported March 29, 2016, 2,153 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Some aerial work devices from model years 2011 through 2016 may have inadequate welds at the boom tip leveling sprockets. If a weld fails, the platform can tilt unexpectedly while a worker is on it.

The danger is that an unexpected tilt may cause the operator to fall, which could result in serious injury. Owners and operators of these aerial devices should take this risk seriously and check whether their equipment is covered.

Terex will notify owners and provide the repair at no charge. Units with a cracked weld on the leveling sprocket will receive a replacement leveling sprocket, and units without a cracked weld will receive a reinforcement kit. Owners can contact Terex South Dakota at 1-800-982-8975 and reference recall number SN638. Owners should also check their vehicle identification number for open recalls.
