Bugatti Veyron Recall 16V166: Underbody lift plates may detach and strike other vehicles

NHTSA campaign 16V166, reported March 23, 2016, 87 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain Bugatti Veyron vehicles from the 2006 through 2011 model years, including Grand Sport and Super Sport versions, may have aluminum reference plates on the underbody that are used when lifting the car. Over time these plates can corrode and separate from the vehicle.

If a plate detaches while the car is being driven, it can become a road hazard, potentially striking another vehicle and increasing the risk of a crash.

Owners will be notified by Bugatti. The remedy is free: an authorized dealer will rivet and seal the underbody aluminum reference plates at no charge. You can contact Bugatti at (805) 557-1050, and you should check your vehicle identification number (VIN) for open recalls.
