- Problem
- Forest River, Inc. (Forest River) is recalling certain model year 2016 Cherokee Grey Wolf recreational trailers manufactured from March 23, 2015, through March 9, 2016. The Federal Placard incorrectly indicates the tire and rim size as ST205/75R15/C Tire(s) with 15X5.0JJ rims. However, the trailer is equipped with ST205/75R14/C Tire(s) with 14X5.5JJ rims. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 110, "Tire Selection and Rims."
- Risk
- Incorrect information on the Federal Placard may lead to the operator overloading the vehicle, increasing the risk of a tire blowout and the possibility of a crash.
- Remedy
- Forest River will notify owners and will send them a corrected Federal Placard, free of charge. The recall began on April 25, 2016. Owners may contact Forest River customer service at 1-541-995-3447 extension 4013. Forest River's recall number for this campaign is 64-03112016-0147.
- Notes
- Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.
What this recall means for you
The Federal Placard on these trailers lists the wrong tire and rim size: it shows ST205/75R15 tires on 15-inch rims, but the trailer actually has ST205/75R14 tires on 14-inch rims. Because the placard is inaccurate, the trailer may be loaded beyond what its tires can safely carry. An overloaded tire can blow out, which may cause a crash.
Forest River will notify owners and send a corrected Federal Placard at no cost. To get your replacement, contact Forest River customer service at 1-541-995-3447, extension 4013, and reference recall number 64-03112016-0147. The recall applies to trailers manufactured from March 23, 2015 through March 9, 2016. Check your vehicle identification number for any open recalls.
Until you receive the corrected placard, use the tire and rim information printed on the tires and trailer, and do not exceed the load limits they support.
