Pierce Arrow XT Recall 16V123: Driveshaft Cap May Loosen and Detach, Risking a Crash

NHTSA campaign 16V123, reported March 2, 2016, 239 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

A fastener cap over the bearing on the universal joint of the driveshaft may not have been properly tightened during manufacture. This affects certain 2016 fire and emergency vehicles built between October 13, 2015, and February 9, 2016.

If the cap was not tightened correctly, it can come off the vehicle and become a road hazard for other drivers. In addition, the universal joint may separate, leaving the vehicle unable to be driven and increasing the risk of a crash.

Owners should contact Pierce Manufacturing customer service at 1-888-974-3723, referencing recall number 74B270. Pierce will notify owners, and an authorized dealer will check and correct the tightness of the universal joint cap bolts as needed, at no cost. You can also check your VIN for open recalls.
