Nissan Leaf Recall 16V119: Brake Relay May Freeze in Cold, Requiring More Pedal Effort

NHTSA campaign 16V119, reported February 29, 2016, 46,859 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

In very cold temperatures, the relay inside the electronic brake booster on certain Nissan Leaf vehicles from the 2013 to 2015 model years may freeze. When this happens, the driver may have to press the brake pedal harder to slow the vehicle down.

If the brake relay fails, the vehicle may need a longer distance or more brake effort to stop, which increases the risk of a crash. Owners should be aware of this risk, especially during cold weather.

The repair is free. Nissan will notify owners, and authorized dealers will reprogram the Intelligent Brake Control Unit software at no charge. Owners can contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-647-7261, and should check their VIN for open recalls.
