Open Range Roamer Recall 16V115: Incorrect Weight Label Can Lead to Overloading and Tire Failure

What this recall means for you

Some recreational trailers built between March 2011 and March 2014 may have a label that lists an incorrect Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR), the maximum loaded weight the trailer is designed to carry. Owners who load their trailer based on the wrong figure may exceed the true limit, which can cause tire failure and increase the risk of a crash.

If you own an affected trailer, the manufacturer, Open Range R.V. Company, will notify you and will send a replacement label with the corrected weight information at no charge. Until you receive it, avoid loading the trailer based on the existing label and check whether your trailer is covered by this recall.

Problem
Open Range R.V. Company (Open Range) is recalling certain model year 2012-2014 Mesa Ridge and Roamer trailers, and 2013-2014 Light trailers manufactured March 23, 2011, to March 20, 2014. In the affected fifth wheel and travel trailers, the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) calculation on the label may be incorrect, which may result in the overloading of the vehicles.
Risk
If the owners load the trailers based on the incorrect labels, the trailers may be overloaded, resulting in tire failure, and increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy
Open Range will notify owners and will provide a label with the corrected weight information, free of charge. The recall began on April 11, 2016. Owners may contact Highland customer service at 1-260-768-7771. Open Range's number for this recall is 9905283.
