Dodge Dart Recall 16V113: Engine May Surge Unexpectedly, Raising Crash Risk

NHTSA campaign 16V113, reported February 26, 2016, 1,122 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain Dodge Dart vehicles with a 2.0L engine and manual transmission may be missing a backup layer of software in the powertrain control module, which monitors engine torque output. Without this backup, the module may fail to prevent an unintended torque event, where the engine produces power the driver did not request.

An unexpected surge of engine power can cause a loss of vehicle control and increases the risk of a crash. Owners should take this recall seriously and have the vehicle checked as soon as possible.

The repair is free. Dealers will update the Engine Control Module software at no cost to you. Owners can also contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403 (recall S10). Check your VIN for open recalls to confirm whether your vehicle is affected.
