What this recall means for you
Certain 2009 vehicles built between February and August 2008 have air bag control units that can corrode and fail. A failed unit may stop the front air bags from deploying in a crash, raising the risk of occupant injury. It may also cause the air bags to deploy unexpectedly, which could itself lead to a crash.
The manufacturer will notify owners, and authorized dealers will replace the air bag control unit at no cost to you. Volkswagen customer service can be reached at 1-800-893-5298 for questions about the recall.
You should check whether your vehicle is affected by entering its VIN on the manufacturer or NHTSA recall lookup tools, and contact an authorized dealer to schedule the free repair.
