RAM Promaster Recall 16V076: ESC May Stay Off After Restart, Raising Crash Risk

NHTSA campaign 16V076, reported February 10, 2016, 57 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain 2016 Ram ProMaster vans with 3.0L diesel engines, built between October 21 and December 17, 2015, may have an Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) control module that does not turn the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) system back on when the key is turned off and back on quickly. If the driver has turned ESC off, it should reactivate at the next start, but on these vans it may not. The vehicle then fails to meet federal safety standard FMVSS 126 for electronic stability control.

Driving with ESC off can increase the risk of a crash, because the system helps the driver keep control during skids or loss of traction.

FCA US LLC will notify owners, and authorized dealers will update the ABS control module software at no cost. Owners can contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403 (recall S04), and you should check your vehicle identification number (VIN) for any open recalls.
