Genie TZ-34/20 Recall 16V067: Loose Bolts Can Let Lift Platform Fall

NHTSA campaign 16V067, reported February 5, 2016, 6 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain 2016 trailer-mounted boom lifts may have turntable bolts that were not properly tightened during manufacturing, which applies to units built between January 5 and January 20, 2016. Over time, these under-tightened bolts attaching the turntable to the rotation bearing may shear.

If the bolts shear, the platform can fall, creating a higher risk of injury to anyone working on or near the lift. Owners should stop using the equipment only if they have reason to believe it is affected, and contact the manufacturer promptly.

The repair is free. Genie will notify owners, and an authorized dealer will correctly tighten the bolts attaching the turntable to the rotation bearing at no charge. Owners can contact Genie customer service at 1-800-536-1800, referencing Issue 121, and can check their vehicle identification number for any open recalls.
