Showhauler Motorhome Recall 16V039: Entry Steps May Fail and Cause Falls

What this recall means for you

Certain motorhomes, garage units, and toter coaches built between June 2007 and April 2011 may have electric entry steps that can become unstable. A bolt attaching the fan gear assembly to the steps may fracture, allowing the gear to disengage. The steps may then fail to stay in the expected position.

Unstable entry and exit steps raise the risk of injury to people getting in and out of the vehicle. Owners should stop relying on the electric steps if they seem loose, shift, or do not hold position, and use caution when entering or leaving the vehicle.

Problem
ShowHauler Trucks, Inc. (ShowHauler) is recalling certain model year 2007-2011 Motorhomes, Garage units, and Toterhomes manufactured June 1, 2007, to April 13, 2011. The affected vehicles are equipped with certain Lippert-brand Coachstep Double and Triple Electric Steps. These steps use a bolt to attach the fan gear assembly to the steps. This bolt may fracture allowing the fan gear to disengage from the steps. As a result, the steps may not remain in the expected position and may be unstable.
Risk
Unstable entry and exit steps increase the risk of injury.
Remedy
ShowHauler will notify owners and dealers will install a retainer bracket to reinforce the operating mechanism, free of charge. The recall began on February 23, 2016. Owners may contact ShowHauler customer service at 1-574-825-6764.
