Newmar Dutch Star Recall 16V008: Entry steps may become unstable and cause falls

NHTSA campaign 16V008, reported January 13, 2016, 3,712 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

The bolt attaching the fan gear assembly to certain electric entry steps on these motorhomes may fracture. If it does, the fan gear can disengage from the steps, so they may not stay in their expected position and can become unstable.

Unstable entry and exit steps increase the risk of injury. Owners should stop relying on the electric steps if they move or feel loose, and contact Newmar customer service at 1-574-773-7791 or Lippert Components customer service at 574-537-8900 for guidance.

The repair is free: Newmar will notify owners, and dealers will install a retainer bracket to reinforce the operating mechanism at no charge. Check your vehicle identification number for open recalls to confirm whether your motorhome is affected.
