BMW I8 Recall 15V882: Stability Control Defect Can Impair Braking and Handling

NHTSA campaign 15V882, reported December 28, 2015, 16 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain 2015 BMW i8 vehicles built between May 29, 2015 and June 5, 2015 may have improperly drilled holes in the Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) hydraulic unit. These holes can restrict one or more pistons, which may impair DSC functions, including braking.

If DSC is impaired, the vehicle's handling and braking may be negatively affected, which increases the risk of a crash. Owners should take this recall seriously and arrange the repair promptly.

BMW will notify affected owners. Dealers will inspect the DSC hydraulic unit and replace it if necessary, at no cost to you. The recall began February 8, 2016. You can also contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417, and check your vehicle identification number (VIN) for open recalls.
