Vanguard Cimc Reefer Trailer Recall 15V847: Loose Brake Caliper Bolts Can Reduce Braking

NHTSA campaign 15V847, reported December 16, 2015, 85 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain 2015-2016 CIMC dry freight and refrigerated trailers built between October 22, 2014, and October 2, 2015, and equipped with certain Meritor EX225L2 or EX225L+ axles may have caliper mounting bolts that were not properly tightened. Over time, these bolts can back out, allowing the brake caliper to detach from the axle flange.

If a caliper detaches, braking performance is reduced, which increases the risk of a crash.

Vanguard National Trailer Corporation will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the caliper bolts and tighten them as needed at no cost to you. Problem
Vanguard National Trailer Corporation (Vanguard) is recalling certain model year 2015-2016 CIMC Dry Freight and Refrigerated trailers manufactured October 22, 2014, to October 2, 2015, and equipped with certain Meritor EX225L2 or EX225L+ axles. The affected axle assemblies have caliper bolts that may not have been properly tightened, allowing the caliper mounting bolts to back out and the caliper to detach from the axle flange.
Risk
If the caliper detaches from the axle flange, braking performance would be reduced, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy
Vanguard will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the caliper bolts, tightening them as necessary, free of charge. The recall began on December 18, 2015. Owners may contact Vanguard customer service at 1-219-253-2000, or Meritor customer service at 1-866-668-7221. Vanguard's number for this recall is 15E083.
