Mclaren P1 Recall 15V836: Hood May Open While Driving, Raising Crash Risk

NHTSA campaign 15V836, reported December 11, 2015, 122 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

The secondary hood latch on certain 2014-2015 McLaren P1 vehicles may not properly re-engage. If the primary latch is released by accident, the hood can open while the vehicle is moving. The vehicles therefore do not meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 113 for hood latch systems.

An open hood can block the driver's view and increase the risk of a crash. Owners of affected vehicles built between March 1, 2013 and October 31, 2015 should expect a notice from McLaren Automotive, and the recall began on January 18, 2016.

Dealers will replace the hood latch with a newly designed latch at no cost to you. You can contact McLaren customer service at 1-646-429-8916 with questions, and check your vehicle's VIN for any open recalls.
