Ameritrans 200 Recall 15V827: Wheelchair Lift Platform Can Fall Out When Doors Open

NHTSA campaign 15V827, reported December 9, 2015, 26 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Some wheelchair lifts installed in these buses may have folding link arms with pivot holes that are too large. This allows the bearings to shift out of position, so the stowed lift platform can move excessively and its mounting can fail.

If the platform mounting fails, the lift platform could fall out of the vehicle when the doors are opened, increasing the risk of injury to the lift operator.

The repair is free at an authorized dealer. Dealers will inspect the link arms for damage or displaced bearings and check the platform for cracks, replacing any damaged parts at no charge. Owners can contact Ameritrans customer service at 1-574-262-8935 or Ricon customer service at 1-800-322-2884, and should check their VIN for open recalls.
