Mitsubishi Mirage Recall 15V815: Water and salt can corrode a connector, delaying front air bags

NHTSA campaign 15V815, reported December 4, 2015, 55,899 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

On certain 2014-2015 Mitsubishi Mirage vehicles built between July 27, 2013, and September 2, 2015, water and salt from the driver's footwell can soak through the carpet and corrode a wiring connector in a junction box behind the kick panel to the left of the driver's footrest.

If the connector corrodes, the frontal air bags could be delayed in deploying during a crash, increasing the risk of injury to the driver and front seat passenger.

Dealers will inspect the affected connectors and replace any that are corroded, and a waterproof sheet will be installed over the connectors to prevent future corrosion. The repair is free at an authorized dealer. Owners can check their VIN for open recalls and contact Mitsubishi Motors North America customer service at 1-888-648-7820.
