Somerset E1 Recall 15V801: Water Heater May Overheat and Scald Users

What this recall means for you

Certain 2013-2014 Somerset E1 and Santa Fe recreational trailers, built between November 1, 2012 and January 31, 2013, have Atwood on-demand water heaters with a water and gas valve that can cause the heater to overheat the water at the hot water tap. Hot water that overheats can turn to steam when released, which may scald the person using the tap and increases the risk of injury.

The remedy for this recall is still under development, so no free repair is available yet. Owners can contact Columbia Northwest customer service at 1-724-423-7440 or Atwood customer service at 1-574-264-2131 for updates and to ask about the status of the fix. Recall number 15E-087 is the reference to use when you call. The recall began on January 15, 2016.

Until a remedy is available, use caution when running hot water from the trailer's tap and check with the manufacturer for guidance. Check your vehicle identification number (VIN) on the NHTSA recall lookup to confirm whether your trailer has open recalls.

Problem
Columbia Northwest, Inc. (Columbia) is recalling certain model year 2013-2014 Somerset E1 and Santa Fe recreational trailers manufactured November 1, 2012, to January 31, 2013, and equipped with Atwood on demand water heaters. The water heaters have a water and gas valve that may cause the heater to overheat the water in the hot water supply tap.
Risk
The overheating of the water may result in the release of steam, possibly causing the operator is to scald themselves and increasing the risk of injury.
Remedy
The remedy for this recall is still under development. The recall began on January 15, 2016. Owners may contact Columbia customer service at 1-724-423-7440, or Atwood customer service at 1-574-264-2131. Columbia's number for this recall is 15E-087.
