Ford Fusion Recall 15V793: Purge valve fault can crack fuel tank and cause leaks

NHTSA campaign 15V793, reported November 24, 2015, 411,205 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

A faulty fuel vapor canister purge valve can cause abnormal pressure changes in the fuel tank. Over time, these pressure changes may crack the tank and allow fuel to leak.

A fuel leak near an ignition source increases the risk of a fire. Dealers will update the powertrain control module, check for diagnostic trouble codes related to this issue, and leak test the canister purge valve. The fuel tank will be inspected for cracks, and the purge valve and fuel tank will be replaced if needed.

The repairs are free at an authorized Ford or Mercury dealer. Owners can check whether their vehicle has open recalls using their VIN, or contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 (recall 15S34).
