Nissan Rogue Recall 15V775: Vehicle Can Shift Out of Park Without Brake, Risking Rollaway

NHTSA campaign 15V775, reported November 20, 2015, 33,880 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain 2015 Nissan Rogue vehicles built between February 10, 2015 and May 13, 2015 may have a shift selector knob problem that allows the gear selector to be moved out of the "Park" position without the brake pedal being pressed. This means the vehicle does not meet federal rollaway prevention requirements.

If the shift selector can be moved out of Park while the brake pedal is not depressed, the vehicle may unexpectedly roll, which increases the risk of a crash. Owners should be cautious and always press the brake pedal firmly when shifting out of Park.

Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and replace the shift selector knob as necessary, free of charge. The recall began January 15, 2016. To check whether your vehicle is affected, contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-647-7261 or check your VIN for open recalls.
