Elkhart Ecii Recall 15V768: Wheelchair Lift Platform Can Fall Out of Bus

NHTSA campaign 15V768, reported November 18, 2015, 5,675 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain Elkhart ECII transit buses (model years 2006-2014) have wheelchair lifts built by Ricon Corporation with folding link arms whose pivot holes may be too large. This can let the bearings move out of position, causing excessive movement of the stowed platform and possible failure of its mounting.

If the platform mounting fails, the wheelchair lift platform could fall out of the vehicle when the doors are opened, increasing the risk of injury to the lift operator. Vehicles that received the remedy from a similar 2014 recall are still covered by this recall.

Forest River will notify owners. Ricon dealers will inspect the link arms for damage or displaced bearings and check the platform for cracks, replacing any damaged parts free of charge. Owners can contact Forest River customer service at 574-264-5179 ext. 102 or Ricon Customer Service at 1-800-322-2884, and should check their VIN for open recalls.

Problem
Forest River, Inc. (Forest River) is recalling certain model year 2006-2014 Elkhart ECII transit buses manufactured January 1, 2006, to September 26, 2014, equipped with certain model S2005, S2010, S5005, S5010, S5505, and S5510 wheelchair lifts built by the Ricon Corporation.
