Forest River Surveyor Recall 15V741: Wrong tire size on label can cause poor handling and crash risk

What this recall means for you

Certain 2010-2016 Surveyor recreational trailers have a Federal Certification Placard that lists a tire and rim size different from what is actually installed on the trailer. The placard is the document that tells owners which tires to use, so the mismatch is a compliance problem under federal certification rules.

If the tires are replaced with the size shown on the placard, the trailer may handle poorly, which increases the risk of a crash. Owners should not rely on the placard alone for tire selection.

Problem
Forest River, Inc. (Forest River) is recalling certain model year 2010-2016 Surveyor recreational trailers, models SVT243RBS and ORSVT243RBS. The affected vehicles have Federal Certification Placards that list an incorrect tire and rim size from what is actually installed on the vehicle. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of 49 CFR Part 567, "Certification."
Risk
If the operator installs tires that are the size that is indicated on the placard, it can cause poor vehicle handling, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy
Forest River will notify owners and mail them a corrected Federal placard label, free of charge. The recall began on December 2, 2015. Owners may contact Forest River customer service at 1-574-642-3119 extension 205. Forest River's number for this recall is 37-11052015-0106.
