International Prostar Recall 15V693: Truck May Roll Backward After Shifting Out of Reverse

NHTSA campaign 15V693, reported October 23, 2015, 5 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain 2016 International ProStar and TranStar trucks with Eaton Fuller FR-Series 10-speed manual transmissions may not fully disengage reverse gear when the shift lever is moved from reverse to neutral. In some cases, shifting from reverse into a forward gear can cause the transmission to mechanically lock because reverse and a forward gear are engaged at the same time.

Even after the shifter has been moved out of reverse into neutral, the vehicle may unexpectedly move backward, which increases the risk of a crash. Owners should check their vehicle's VIN for open recalls and contact Navistar customer service at 1-800-343-7357 (recall number 15516) if their truck is affected.

Navistar will notify owners, and authorized dealers will inspect the transmission and repair or replace it as needed. The repair is free of charge. The recall began on November 20, 2015.
