Mack Granite (Gu) Recall 15V690: Loose Axle Nuts Can Cause Driveshaft Disconnection and Loss of Power

NHTSA campaign 15V690, reported October 22, 2015, 8 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Some drive axles installed in these trucks have hex nuts on the flange yoke that may not have been tightened to the required specification. Over time, a loose nut can allow the driveshaft to separate from the drive axle.

If the driveshaft disconnects, the truck can lose propulsion, which raises the risk of a crash. Owners should watch for any unusual noises, vibration, or loss of drive power from the rear axle.

The repair is free. Mack will notify owners, and an authorized dealer will inspect the hex nut and tighten it to the proper torque. Owners can contact Mack customer service at 1-800-528-6586 with questions, and should check their VIN for any open recalls.
