Maserati Quattroporte GTS Recall 15V686: Battery Cable Can Short and Cause Fire or Stall

NHTSA campaign 15V686, reported October 21, 2015, 984 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

A battery positive cable on some vehicles may not have its insulating cap installed properly at the starter motor, and the cable may not be adequately secured in the engine bay. This can allow the cable to short to ground.

If the cable shorts to ground, the wiring harness may overheat and cause a fire. The vehicle may also stall, which increases the risk of a crash.

An authorized dealer will inspect the starter motor cable to confirm it has a properly installed protective cap and is adequately secured. If not, the starter motor cable assembly will be replaced. The repair is free of charge. Owners can contact Maserati customer service at 1-877-696-2737, and you can check your VIN for open recalls.
