Volvo VN Recall 15V682: Truck May Roll Backward in Reverse, Raising Crash Risk

NHTSA campaign 15V682, reported October 20, 2015, 7 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain trucks with Eaton Fuller FR-Series 10-speed manual transmissions may keep reverse gear engaged after the shift lever is moved from reverse to neutral. Moving the lever from reverse to a forward gear can also cause the transmission to mechanically lock, because reverse and a forward gear are engaged at the same time.

Even after the transmission has been shifted into neutral, the vehicle may unexpectedly move backward, which increases the risk of a crash.

The repair is free. Volvo will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and repair the transmission if necessary at no cost. Owners can contact Volvo customer service at 1-800-528-6586 or Eaton customer service at 1-800-826-4357, and should check their VIN for open recalls.
