RAM 1500 Recall 15V661: Rear Axle Shafts May Break, Risking Wheel Separation

NHTSA campaign 15V661, reported October 15, 2015, 61,859 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain 2015-2016 Ram 1500 trucks built between June 17, 2015 and September 28, 2015 may have rear axles that were incorrectly heat treated during manufacturing. An improperly heat treated rear axle shaft can fracture, which may cause a wheel to separate from the vehicle while driving.

A wheel separation can cause a loss of control and increases the risk of a crash. If you own a truck built during this production window, do not ignore this recall. Contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403 (Chrysler recall number R59), or check your VIN for open recalls.

The remedy is free. An authorized dealer will inspect your vehicle and replace the rear axle assemblies as necessary at no cost to you. Chrysler will also notify affected owners directly.
