What this recall means for you
A software error in the engine control unit can cause the engine to stall while the vehicle is coasting to a stop, such as at a traffic light. Drivers may mistake the stall for a planned shut-down from the ECO-Start function, but the engine will not restart automatically when the brake pedal is released. The vehicle can be left immobilized, which increases the risk of a crash.
The remedy is free. Dealers will update the engine control unit software at no cost to the owner. Owners can also contact Mercedes-Benz customer service at 1-800-367-6372, and should check their VIN for open recalls.
If you own an affected vehicle, schedule the software update with an authorized dealer as soon as possible.
