Volvo VN Recall 15V651: Worn Front Ball Joints Can Cause Loss of Steering

NHTSA campaign 15V651, reported October 13, 2015, 14,934 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain 2009-2015 Volvo VN trucks built between April 2008 and December 2014 may have front suspension ball joints whose seals are compromised. This can let corrosion develop, causing accelerated wear and possible failure of the lower or upper ball joint.

If a ball joint fails, the socket can separate, which may cause a complete loss of steering and increase the risk of a crash. Volvo says it will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the vehicle and replace the drag links free of charge. Replacement parts are now available, and owners should contact Volvo customer service at 1-877-800-4945, option 1, to arrange the repair. Check your VIN for open recalls to confirm whether your truck is affected.
