Chevrolet Tahoe Recall 15V640: Ignition may stick or snap to Accessory, risking loss of power

NHTSA campaign 15V640, reported October 9, 2015, 3,073 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

The ignition lock actuator in certain trucks and SUVs may bind, making the key hard to turn or causing the ignition to stick in the "Start" position. If it gets stuck there, the ignition can suddenly snap back to "Accessory," cutting engine, steering, and braking power and raising the risk of a crash. In a crash, the air bags may not deploy, increasing the risk of injury to occupants.

GM will notify owners, and authorized dealers will replace the ignition lock housing free of charge. Owners can contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020 or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782, and GM's recall number is 15573. Check your vehicle identification number (VIN) for open recalls to confirm whether your vehicle is included.
