Mazda MAZDA3 Recall 15V621: Fuel Leak and Engine Stall Risk: Fire and Crash Hazard

NHTSA campaign 15V621, reported October 2, 2015, 14,411 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain vehicles built between May 21, 2015 and August 25, 2015 have a fuel tank shut-off valve that can allow fuel to enter the fuel tank emissions system. If enough fuel gets into that system, it may leak onto the ground or cause the engine to stall. A fuel leak near an ignition source raises the risk of fire, and a sudden stall raises the risk of a crash.

Authorized dealers will inspect the fuel shut-off valve and, if needed, replace the valve and affected fuel tank emissions system components at no cost to you. Owners are advised not to drive the vehicle until the repairs are completed, and the manufacturer will provide a rental car in the meantime.

To check whether your vehicle is included, contact the Mazda Customer Experience Center at 1-800-222-5500, option 6, and reference recall 8615J. You can also check your VIN for open recalls through NHTSA or a Mazda dealer.
