Ford F-150 Recall 15V614: Adaptive cruise control may brake unexpectedly

NHTSA campaign 15V614, reported September 30, 2015, 33,481 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Some vehicles equipped with Adaptive Cruise Control can falsely detect an obstacle in the road ahead and apply the brakes on their own. The system's radar may misread a clear path, causing the vehicle to slow suddenly while you are driving with the feature in use.

An unexpected braking event raises the risk of a crash, particularly if a vehicle behind you is following closely and is not expecting the sudden slowdown. Owners should be alert to this behavior when using Adaptive Cruise Control.

The remedy is free. Dealers will reprogram the cruise control module with updated adaptive cruise control radar software at no cost to you. Ford will notify affected owners, or you can contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 and reference recall number 15S29. You can also check your vehicle identification number (VIN) for open recalls to confirm whether your truck is included.
