Ford F-53 Recall 15V611: Truck Can Shift Out of Park Without Brakes, Risking Crash

NHTSA campaign 15V611, reported September 30, 2015, 1,477 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain stripped chassis trucks built between June 1 and August 11, 2015 may have an incorrect shift cable bracket and an improperly adjusted shift cable. Because of this, the transmission can be shifted out of Park without the brake pedal being pressed.

If the truck can be shifted into Reverse without the brakes applied, it may move unintentionally, which increases the risk of a crash. Owners should be especially careful to set the parking brake and keep their foot on the brake when shifting out of Park until the repair is done.

Ford will notify affected owners. Dealers will replace the transmission shift control bracket and adjust the shift cable at no cost to you. You can also contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 and check your VIN for open recalls.
